Lesson Plan

1.	Turn the calculator ON.
2.	Press STAT, 1. Edit to enter the data in the calculator
Suppose we want to enter the following data:
x	0	1	4	5	8
y	1	3	9	11	17
3.	In L1 place the x-values
4.	In L2 place the y-values
5.	Press WINDOW and enter these numbers:
6.	choose numbers for Xmin, Xmax, Xscl, Ymin, Ymax, and Yscl to reflect the values in the table.
7.	Press 2nd PLOT (Y=). Choose 1 by pressing ENTER. Set this window as illustrated at the right.
8.	Press GRAPH to see a scatterplot of the data.
9.	In this lesson we will be looking for equations that can represent the data. Since the data appears to be linear let’s study it more carefully.
	a.	What does the slope appear to be?
	b.	What does the y-intercept appear to be?
	c.	Write an equation for this data and enter it in Y1.
	d.	Press GRAPH to see whether your equation passes through the data.
10.	Record your graph in the space provided.

11.	Use your equation to predict the value that matches up with x = 10.
12.	Describe why you believe this number makes sense.
