With the TI-73 Graphing Calculator it is possible to any number of coins (and it is very quiet).

Set the Random Number Generator

First let's set each calculator to a different location in the random number generator.  Have students type in their favorite 7 digit number other than 1234567 on the home screen.  Then

Press STO.  Your screen should look like this:
Press Math and cursor to the right to the PRB Column. 

 

Select 1. rand.
Press ENTER and the seven digit number should re-appear on the next line. 

 

Flipping One Coin

 

Generating the command Dice( .

bulletMove to the PRB column
bulletSelect choice 7. Dice(
bulletThe dice command will be pasted on the home screen. Add 1) after the command.
bulletPress ENTER to execute the
bulletcommand.
bulletThe screen shows the results of one coin flipping:  a {1} indicates a head and a {0} indicates a tail. 
bulletTo re-flip the coin press enter. 

 

 

 

 

Flipping Two Coins

bulletThe screen shows the results of two coins flipping:  Each brace contains two numbers.  a 1 indicates a head and a 0 indicates a tail.
