(Section 1)

Names

You should recognize each of the following sets of numbers and how they are similar to each other and how they are different from each other.
Natural Numbers: {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...} 
Whole Numbers: {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...}
Integers: {...-4, -3, -2, -1, 0, 1, 2, 3, ...}
Rational Numbers: Any numbers of the form  , where a is an integer and b is a natural number - Repeating or terminating decimal numbers
Irrational Numbers: Any number which cannot be written in the form , where a is an integer and b is a natural number - Non-repeating and non-terminating decimal numbers
Real Numbers: Includes all the numbers listed above
Check Your Understanding: (Remember to record these answers.)
1. Make a list of five numbers which are integers, but not natural numbers.
2. Make a list of five numbers which are irrational numbers.
3. Make a list of five numbers which are real numbers, but not whole numbers.
4. Make a list of five numbers which are rational numbers, but not integers.
